Naturalist & Programmer: Becky Cunfer
Naturalist and Programmer, Becky Cunfer graduated from Unity College in Maine with a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Care and Education. She has spent several years developing and facilitating outdoor educational and recreational programs for the general public and local community youth.   Becky is currently a full-time employee at the Carbon Conservation District, where her main responsibilities are associated with Erosion and Sedimentation Control.

As a child, Becky always loved to explore the family farm and forest in her backyard.  As she grew up, her curiosity was inspired by her involvement in 4-H, Future Farmers of America and Girl Scouting organizations.  Through her experiences in these programs, she was able to explore agricultural and environmental sciences and her love for the outdoors continued to grow.  She attended 4-H, Girl Scout and Conservation camps for several years.

In 2006, for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, Becky independently directed and organized an environmental day camp for community youth.  The camp focused on wildlife, water ecology, forestry, life cycles and recycling themes.  The 2006 environmental day camp was a huge success.

Over the past few years, Becky has  developed and facilitated outdoor and environmental programs for several local nature organizations including the Carbon County Environmental Education Center, Lehigh Gap Nature Center,  the Mahoning Vally Community 4-H Club & the Nature Start Programs sponsored by Penn State Cooperative Extension.

In addition to her experiences with educational programming, Becky has worked as a  Boating Director at Bear Hill 4-H Camp in New Hampshire and was also part of the Outdoor Program Staff for the Montana Natural History Center  in Montana.  She has  had the opportunity to work and volunteer for various wildlife research projects including waterfowl banding, turtle trapping and relocation, white tail deer trapping, and  biological data collection and analysis for deer, moose and bear studies in Maine and Pennsylvania.   Becky  also enjoys seasonal work  as a Professional River Rafting Guide on the Lehigh River.

Currently,  Becky is in the process of planning some very exciting programs for this upcoming year.    She plans to begin programming for Evergrowing Inspirations  in May of  2012- GRAND OPENING MAY 5.    Evergrowing Inspirations  will be directed by  Becky Cunfer and will be hosted at  Overlook Deer Farm in Lehighton.   Programs will be offered throughout the year, check online for future program opportunities.  Farm tours and group programs will be available by appointment only on  Saturdays from 10AM- 6PM and Monday through Friday evenings.
